time to cry, close and restart Reaper and go for another try with different settings! close the prefererences and take a look at what appears in the upper right corner of the screen, and try recording audioįYI : if nothing appears in the upper right corner of the screen, it means that Reaper has stopped the audio engine for various reasons. if not : check the audio preferences and apply changes accordingly to what you did in the Windows sound application finally start Reaper : is there an indication of the start of the audio engine (upper right corner of the Reaper screen)?

download and install something like Audacity to record the incoming signal ( ) and test wether it's a software related issue or not - if you can't do anaything in Audacity, it's probably a hardware issue or a windows setting issue - but if that works in Audacity, then: test the incoming et outcoming signal in the Windows sound app with an audio source plugged in the interface (there is a green meter to do this check) after restart, set the input and output devices in Windows Sound app to the lowest (44100hz, 16 bits)

uninstall the M-Audio driver, restart the computer and reinstall a fresh copy of the driver in administrator mode (right click on the installer) - maybe a CCcleaner run could help before restarting the computer
disconnect the unnecessary USB devices, check the USB cables connected between the interface and the laptop, change the USB port in case of one of them is malfunctionning (frequent issue on laptops, sprecifically on old laptops ) I'm not in your place, but if I was, I'd try to, in this order : the Reaper internal settings - is the issue reproductible in other software? the windows settings for the input and output devices? the interface driver not working properly? your USB bus (I see on your picture that there are many USB devices connected to the laptop) - is there enough juice for the interface to work well? You've got to sort between different issues. That's a problem solving challenge! Love that! And the more plgins you put in your tracks, the more latency you will get.
Once again, I think you should be rewarded by checking: the USB setup in windows, wasapi driver in exclusive mode, your cables (both midi and USB).Īlso have in mind that certain plugins generate quite a latency (ie. I tried Zampler, Surge, Dexed and a few other. I did not notice any latency issue with this setup in Reaper. No audio interface, Wasapi driver in exclusive mode. The setup : Midi Guitar > Roland GR20 (midi processor, it just converts the guitar sound to midi informations > Midisport > a not so young Asus Laptop with Win 10 (latest update). I have dowloaded and installed the latest driver from M-Audio : I just retrieved in my discarded junk box an old USB Midisport 2x2. and your cables (makes a huge difference to all kind of cable connected equipments).
